Easy Installation

I first bought this cartridge because after 9 years of use (installed in 2012) the faucet handle became stiff. Used for easy twist and easy water incorporation. In the last two weeks it has become increasingly difficult. (Thanks to Revain Q&A for this cartridge that said it fixed this issue, which it did.) Secondly, I got hold of this cartridge via the Hansgrohe parts website, although I have to say it was a little tricky is to navigate and be safe cartridge fits in the old mount. However, it seems that this cartridge is somewhat universal and fits MANY Hansgrohe products. Third installation. I've attached a photo of what my crane looks like for reference. It took me about half an hour to install. It shouldn't have taken more than 10 minutes. The approach is the same as at Ikea. pictures, not words. Except that the pictures are only marginally useful. 1) With the handle straight up (as shown in the picture) mine had a small rubber plug in the base next to the handle. pull it out If it falls off don't worry as it can be removed once the handle is removed. 2) If you take a flashlight and look through the hole with the handle turned slightly, you will see a hex recess for the hex key. Contrary to what I thought I saw when ordering, one is not included. However, after assembling some Ikea furniture and other items that require some assembly, I have accumulated a multitude of these keys. One fits perfectly. Because of the way the handle is attached, the screw only needs to be loosened a full turn, maybe two. Pull out the Allen key and the handle comes off easily. 3) Next you need to remove the cosmetic ring. According to the instructions, it can be unscrewed. nope The press fits. There's a large O-ring underneath that ring, and just give it a light press from the center (or grab it with one of those sticky rubber bits that screw on the jar's lid) and it pops right off. (This is where I find the instructions VERY misleading) 4) At this point, make sure the water is turned off. When the cosmetic ring is removed, there is a large threaded nut. If you have a large box wrench, use this one. Most homeowners don't. A water pump pliers (angle sliding head pliers) does this without any problems. (Normal pliers will not open this nut far enough.) 5) Once the nut is removed, simply pull out the cartridge. 6) Be sure to look into the hole the cartridge came out of and remove the fancy green washer. which were probably stuck to the faucet body and did not come out with the cartridge. Simply stretch out and remove with your finger. 7) Pay attention to the blockage of the cartridge - two small cylindrical protrusions / hairpins on the bottom of the cartridge. There are holes in the mixer body into which they are inserted. You install the cartridge in the correct position. 8) Insert the cartridge into the faucet body. It "seats" when the pins fit into the appropriate holes. The hex screw should point roughly toward you. 9) While holding the cartridge, tighten the large nut. Make sure the cartridge is properly aligned before attempting to tighten the nut. You'll feel it click into place when it's in the right place. 10) Tighten the nut firmly, but don't overdo it. 11) Reinstall the cosmetic ring. 12) Put the handle on and tighten the set screw with the Allen key. wrench. 13) Insert the small rubber stopper and turn the water back on. Even if the product description says licensed installer, this is absolutely not necessary. The only reason a plumber is needed is if you break a water shut-off faucet. I've spent most of my time a) looking for the right size allen wrench and mistakenly believing that the set screw is just a regular set screw. b) Trying to unscrew the cosmetic ring instead of just taking it off. c) scratching my head at the instructions and doing what they say, visit pro.hansgrohe-USA.com which is an absolute waste of time as typing in the cartridge part number is anything but readable. It's an expensive part, but considering it's the heart of a very expensive faucet, replacing it saved a faucet replacement that would have taken much longer, and cost $40 to sharpen. And Revane received it in 2 days.
