I picked up several analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog audio-video converters recently, and have owned a number of them in the past as well. I have to say, this is my all-time favorite so far.I really wasn't expecting as much, frankly. I thought this would be just another "plug in and convert" device when I ordered it. I didn't realize just how nice the extra features this provides actually would prove to be.First off, I have yet to find one which converts better than this one does. Time delay is, to me, imperceptible (though most made today are nearly so as well. the older ones used to introduce a significant delay which, for example, made playing old-style game console games nearly impossible). But the feature I really like most is the ability to manually select the 4:3 or "widescreen" modes. The other added features really sell this, though I'm not as likely to use them regularly. Specifically, this allows you to record the video stream passing through it to a USB thumbdrive, and if desired, to overlay your own audio commentary on top of that recording.I've done this before, many times over the years, using a audio-video capture card in my main computer, but this allows it to happen without me ever needing to hook it up to my computer at all. And it does a nice job of recording, too. The audio commentary feature doesn't over-write the audio of the source, but "overlays" it, so you can, for example, narrate your thoughts, in real time, over an old family vacation videotape you're transferring. Yes, it's possible to do this on a computer as well, but with this, you don't HAVE to.The only drawback to this device is the size. and that's a drawback which doesn't bother me, personally. It's quite a bit larger than many other similar devices on the market (mostly, I think, due to the introduction of the video recording option, which no doubt significantly complicates the internal hardware!) So, this unit can't just hang from the wires. it's too big, too heavy. It needs table-top space. But let me be very clear. out of all the various analog-RCA-connector to digital HDMI adapters I've tried over the years, this is my favorite one, and will be my "go to" device for any time I want a high-quality connection. (Other devices I own will be dedicated to the consoles or other low-res analog inputs. say, a 1980s computer, or a 1990s game console.)If you don't mind a slightly larger device, you'll be happy with this converter!
