Lots of problems with this overpriced all-in-one. 1. Fragile bracket can't support the weight of the tablet. My second brace broke on the second day. We have to call the third one, but it will break. We'll probably go back to using 3M heavy-duty mounting tape, which works better than the flimsy mounting tabs on the factory bracket, but the need to use tape is ridiculous considering the purchase price. 2. Hot! And the GPS blocks when it gets too hot. I've tried protecting the device from the sun with a white Hunker Chief, which helps, but again is ridiculous given the purchase price. Also, it's not that easy to keep the leader in place. 3. The satellite radio application keeps freezing. Stopped at least a dozen times today. It doesn't look like heat related because the GPS doesn't freeze either. 4. Searching for GPS addresses is very specific in terms of spelling. For example, sometimes US10 works, but sometimes it wants US-10, and sometimes US HWY 10. Also, it's not always possible to find addresses that are easy to find with Google Map. If you don't notice a misspelling while typing, you'll have to start over as you can only place your cursor at the end of your typing, which is unforgivable considering it's a touchscreen device. 5. It's not safe to keep messing with the damn thing. I actually failed the weigh station today for the 100th time I tried to restart. 6. The battery eats at a tremendous rate because of so much software running in the background. While it charges automatically on the mount, you also need to connect the 12 volt cable directly to the tablet or it's dead for six hours a day. 7. Although the DVR function is cool, the recording takes up a lot of storage space , which forces me not to use them. Pros: It's great to have an all-in-one, at least on paper. GPS is accurate. The satellite radio display is great. love the big screen! The built-in atlas copies Rand's paper atlas. The ability to notify technical support on the screen of speed limit corrections. Cons: Constant stability issues caused by either the software or the very high temperatures this device generates. The woefully inadequate mount is nothing short of ridiculous and can't support the tablet's weight on bumpy Midwestern roads. The battery discharges halfway. A screen protector from the manufacturer is not available. In summary, I think the designers put too much into this product, resulting in the device not being good at anything. UPDATE: 1. The manufacturer introduced an improved mount. Customer service informed me that I was on the list to receive new brackets as soon as they were presented, but this never happened. A few months later I had to call again to be told the new edition was available a few weeks earlier. This new replacement strut lasted about a year before breaking in the same place as the previous version. 2. I also discovered that Rand MacNally, the preeminent map maker in the world, relies solely on 3rd party sources for its GPS maps (WTH!?). All speed limits, road weight limits, and map editing suggestions are outsourced to these third-party sources, which never seem to be updated with suggested fixes. 3. The old mini USB port can no longer support the weight of the charging cable. 4. Direct screen protector is not available. I had to crop it. In the end I just gave up and retired this clumsy device.
