Our GSD is 85-90 pounds of fluffy long hair. The big one suits her perfectly. If it continues to rise, we will have problems. He hugs her well, doesn't bully or interfere. We have a pontoon boat and use the handle to lift her out of the lake while she puts her feet up on the ladder. It survived the summer with no breaks or damage to the handle. She was a decent swimmer but I think she got nervous when she couldn't touch the bottom. She liked to cuddle on the shore. Now she jumps with us directly from the boat into the open water and swims non-stop.
