Review on πŸ“Έ CZUR Shine800-A3-Pro Professional Document Camera and Scanner with OCR Function for MacOS and Windows - Height Adjustable, Supports A3 & A4 Documents by Michael Vargas

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to use. More flexible lighting can be used.

This scanner is easy to set up and use. To set up, simply connect the included USB cable to the scanner and your computer's USB port. Once connected, I downloaded the latest drivers and software from the manufacturer's website. They are on the CD that comes with the scanner, but I always check websites for updates, So I just downloaded the software while I was there. The scanner is simply a camera mounted on an L-shaped stand with an arm extending across the scanning area. Next to the camera are two lights along the arm that can be turned off independently of the cannon if desired. When it's on, there's a knob to adjust the brightness. However, the lights only shine vertically downwards. I've found that if the document you're scanning has a glossiness, the light reflects the document's "blind spot" into the camera (reflected light), making part of the document unreadable even in the light. at their lowest brightness. With glossy paper I have to turn off the light completely and use different light sources angled sideways. Because of this "direct light only" configuration of the built-in lights, I'm giving it four stars instead of five. Scanning: You simply place what needs to be scanned under the camera and press either a button in the scanner app or the included footswitch. I haven't used the pedal so can't comment on that. A simple push of a button in the app works for me. There were many features in the software that I didn't use, so I can't say much about the software. I just scan the page, turn the page, click scan, turn the page, etc. until my document is completely scanned. I've used flatbed scanners in the past and it's a lot faster than picking up a document, turning a page, replacing a document, etc. With it, you just turn the page and click, rotate and click. Speeds up scanning. Each page is initially saved as a separate image, but the only feature of the software I use is PDF export. Simply select the images you want in the PDF and they will be merged into a single PDF while preserving the original individual images. The software has features for cropping and rotating images, OCR conversion, and more, but I didn't need any of these features, so I can't comment on their usefulness or accuracy. Overall I am very satisfied with the product except that I have to resort to alternative lighting solutions when scanning glossy paper on the go.
