I've heard about USB 3 for a long time, but since my old computer originally shipped with Windows XP I didn't have USB 3 ports but had several external drives compatible with USB 3, but they ran at USB 2 speed. I was fine with that. I'm just used to copying a large folder, pasting it into a backup drive and going away for a long time. I'm amazed at how noticeable the difference between 2 and 3 is. Now I have a new computer with a pair of these blue USB ports on my new computer, but not all of my drives and card readers are connected. This hub gives me three extra slots and doesn't slow things down at all. I was a little worried that the drive wouldn't connect directly to the computer, or that working with so many functions at once would cause the computer to slow down. None of that happened. I can have two backup discs and my card reader to load into Lightroom and I have nowhere to go. I've even tried connecting one drive directly to the computer and the other to the hub and plugging into both. No performance difference at all in terms of speeds, no bugs at all. Simply flawless. Gone is the window that reads "45 minutes left" with a green bar that doesn't seem to move. I am very happy. The hub is excellent, USB 3 is excellent. I feel like I've arrived in the 21st century. My Windows 8 computer recognized it, installed it and it worked straight away.
