Review on VILTROX 23mm f/1.4 X-Mount Lens - High-Aperture APS-C Auto-Focus Lens for Fujifilm X-Mount Cameras (X-T3, X-H1, X20, T30, X-T20, X-T100, X-Pro2) by Koichiro Ogata ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm very happy with the product, it's very satisfying.

I've been looking at a lot of reviews for a long time. Before buying Viltrox 23mm, for 3 years I used only native fuji optics. After weighing all the pros and cons, I decided to take a chance and try . and I did not lose! - Constructive. If you do not take into account a modest Chinese box, then when you pick it up you understand - yes, it's just Carl Zeiss! A solid metal body without plastic, even a metal hood! - Autofocus is silent. From the word absolutely! Accurate always, while out of 100% of the frames, all 100% hit the right place. - Sharpness is beyond praise. In the central area of the frame at open 1.4, all shots are sharp. In the very corners, there is a slight drop in sharpness, which persists up to aperture 2.8, then sharp across the entire field. And who is looking into these corners!? Are you serious!?) And by the way, in the center, Viltrox is sharper on open than Fujinon. - Color. The white balance on the native Fujifilm 23 is a bit blue, especially open. The Chinese, on the other hand, is close to ideal and strives to show all colors at all possible apertures as naturally and without distortion as possible. - I won’t talk about distortion, it doesn’t exist for a similar class of lenses with (essentially) wide-angle coverage of the image. Not critical. Arranges! - Vignetting. As for the vignette, of course the lens is "non-native" and its camera itself does not correct when shooting in JPEG, but . I am one of those rare people who add a little bit of vignette to photos. I like the darkening a little at the edges of the frame, it creates additional emphasis and volume in the frame. Moreover, I will say that it is with Vilrox 23 1.4 that the feeling of that very “full frame” that everyone likes to talk about when mentioning Fujifilm is created. - Finally the price! The cost of this lens for January 2022 is an average of 25,000. Compare with the cost of a new native and you will stop looking for flaws in it. - The only feature is the freely (but smoothly) rotating aperture ring. But this is precisely the feature, taking into account the price - this is its only drawback. I recommend! 5+

Pros
  • Aperture, constructive, autofocus, sharpness, equipment, price
Cons
  • the aperture ring is easy to accidentally shift, but this is nitpicking

Pros: In general, quite sharp, autofocus speed, cost Got cons: High level of chromatic aberration at wide aperture, drop in sharpness at the edges, focusing distance displayed incorrectly (closer than actual)
