A few years ago I had a pair of Diesel shoes with crosses on the sole. They were great - as long as you moved. Stop for a while and you can feel each one of them. These Altras are similar in this respect. They are listed as trail running shoes. I bought them for everyday use. They are incredibly comfortable and until I stand for a very long time I don't feel the pressure of the springs on the sole. I have Altra Escalantes, male US9. I tried upgrading to US8.5 but they were too tight. As for the Superior, I settled on the US8.5 and found it roomy enough - just enough to splay my toes and allow my foot to move forward a bit. The lacing and tongue system is different: the tongue is attached to one side and there are few eyelets. Also, the laces are quite long. Altra found a solution: there is a small ring above the foot of the sock through which the laces can be tied. I've found them to stay in place throughout the day; Although I don't run, I remain fairly active. Another difference between Escalante and Superior: the cushioning. The Escalantes also have no drop, but plenty of cushioning. The Superior has less cushioning, which I find useful for tactile feedback, while the Altra offers an insert that can be used when running/walking on rocky terrain to hide some of that feedback. One last note: these shoes are very light. They tick all the boxes for all-day comfort: roominess, support, weight, and the ability to stay where you put them.
