How do I know if they work or not? As far as I can tell, you won't. Here is my experience of using it for 2 seasons: 1) They are very easy to use and that is the main reason for buying them. Arrive at camp, fill toilet with water, put bag in toilet and flush. That's all! No measurements, nothing. 2) There were no paper jams in our black tank. 3 women in a caravan. With Charmin Ultra (package says septic safe) 3) The black tank seems to flush out completely when drained. 5) Smell: Usually we don't have bad smell in bathroom or smell coming from chimney of collection tank. This spring, even after a reset, a very unpleasant smell appeared in the tank, but it went away on its own after a while. I've never smelled the "orange-citrus" smell that this stuff is supposed to deliver. Again, I'm wondering if they work? I think so, but I don't have any concrete evidence. I feel like they break paper and block odors like they should. We're happy with the results we've had with the black tank and its use, so we'll keep going until we have reason to doubt it, with more evidence. I hope this review was helpful to you.
