Review on ASUS ME181C A1 BK 8 Inch Tablet Black by James Lapa

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Would be a great tablet with no battery issues

UPDATE: The replacement tablet has the exact same issue. Return because defective. Tried battery calibration, didn't help. When turned on, the tablet could play YouTube videos (in high definition) for 2.5 hours while the battery barely dropped to 75%. The problem is clearly not in the battery, but in its management. Asus support tried to help but it didn't help. It turned out to be a time buy, not a real solution. I really think this is the problem that quite a number of tablets are not compatible with the software. Poor quality control is my only comment. At the moment I have no choice but to give 2 stars. I wasn't expecting a productive tablet, just a basic one that I can use for browsing and reading. So I didn't care about the specs. At the same time, the tablet was advertised at 11 o'clock. Received, logged in, 100% charged and removed from charging. The next morning the pill was at 50% and by the end of the day almost 2% with no actual use. The only thing I did was make sure WiFi was off when the tablet went to sleep (when not connected). I do this with all my tablets. My Nexus 9 is sipping in sleep mode. My LG gpad was slurping too. The two tablets I had before were the same. Doing so on this tablet seems to result in the power savings that ASUS has, which seems to be wreaking havoc. It doesn't matter how the tablet restarts with sleep mode enabled. keep eating Factory reset made (emptied cache) and tried again. This time I charged up to 55% and allowed the power saving mode to remain in standard mode (extended when Wi-Fi is on). The tablet drained the battery for a while until I switched it to "Ultra Power Saving" and then it started eating again. Switching back to Advanced doesn't help. I don't understand why these people need to skin the tablet in fundamentally unnecessary areas. I find that Android (as my GPE G-Pad and 2 other Nexus devices can attest) does a great job when the battery is dead. Any issues are usually resolved with a reboot. It's just crap. Sorry, but I don't know how else to explain this. I have ordered a replacement. Depending on his results I will update this review. Just disappointed so far, especially considering the runtime specs are exactly what I was looking for. Decent screen (no ambient light sensor, but that didn't bother me) and decent performance. I updated my tablet to the latest and greatest, FYI.
