I've been doing lettering for a little less than 6 months, but in that time I've bought several (too many!) pens. These are my favorites at the moment. I find these Pentel brushes have a bit more power than the Tombow Fudenosuke pens so the letters aren't as thin. This amount of recoil was exactly what I was looking for because I still have enough control and can easily hit good thin serves and heavy hits with them. This gives the lettering a more modern look. The Tombow Fudenosuke grips are a bit stiffer, which is a good thing, and offer more control. I like them too, but I'm just trying to compare. However I have a lot more control with Pentel's brush pens than say Tombow Dual Brush Pens and a lot more control than Faber Castell Pitt Pens which are also good but I wouldn't recommend them for beginners. For beginners, I would say that the best pens for learning to write are Pentel Touch Pens, Tombow Fudenosuke, and Crayola Super Tip Markers.
