Review on Intel Core I5 4460 Quad Core Processor by Mateusz Sztrekier ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

What you need, a cool purchase, I advise you.

From thecommments about the product, it seems that there are several processor options on the market - "hot" and "cold")). I do notrule out that it really can be (different steppings, different degrees of clumsiness of the internal thermal interface). In order: I decided to assemble a high-speed mini-ITX system unit for work, hesitated for a long time which of the processors to take, in the end I decided to take theCore i5-4590 because of the ghostly possibility of using TSX-NI in the future (read the technology overview: . Livejournal.Com/84514.Html, at the very end), because work includesrunning virtual machines. I can say that my particular processor is hot and it is difficult to say if it is suitable for the mini-ITX format at all. At first I used a cheap low-profile Ice Hammer IH-3080PWMcomoler (~300, just aluminum fins + 90mm carlson) on AlSil-3. Turning on the OCCT:CPU burn test, I was stunned - in a few minutes the temperature of one of thecomres reached 86-87 degrees and the test stopped. At idle, the temperature was about 40 degrees. Ofcomurse, I didn’t like it, thecomoler was replaced with a more expensive, also low-profile,Cooler Master GeminII M4 (~ 1300,compper + aluminum, heat pipes + Carlson 120mm), also the voltage of the Vcore processorcomres was reduced in the BIOS from the default ones 1.096V to 1.057V (lower on mycompy was impossible, because it affected the stability of work and got out BSOD) - all this led to the fact that during the 15-minute OCCT:CPU stress testing, the temperature did not rise above 75-76, which, by the way, is also a lot, given that Intelcomnsiders max. the permissible temperature of the case of this processor is 72.5 degrees. True, in the AIDA64 stability test, the temperature (case) of the processor is 63 degrees. If I knew all of the above, perhaps I would have limited myself to something "cooler" or a T series with reducedcomnsumption. Ofcomurse, in a mode similar to the burn-test, the processor will not really be used, but this is at least a reason to think.

Pros
  • fast
Cons
  • quite expensive, hot
