Review on ๐Ÿ”ฆ NiteRider Lumina 1000 Boost USB Rechargeable Bike Light: Powerful Lumens Bicycle Headlight for Enhanced Cycling Safety by Emmanuel Chouinard

Great light, crappy mounting system

I'm used to riding my bike in New York City, where the streets are brightly lit and all I needed was a bike light as a beacon to get noticed. After driving further afield, I quickly realized I needed something that could double as a headlight, so I bought this lamp. So far I've used this light for short trips in poorly lit suburbs and it's great for that purpose. I only use medium and high functions. "Low" is too low and "Boost" drains the battery too quickly. So far, using these two modes has not caused me any problems with either the brightness or the charge. I plan to keep my charger in my bag when planning long trips. In any case, I find the battery life of this flashlight to be quite comparable to the lifespan of other rechargeable USB flashlights and really see no disadvantage in this. However, the mounting system requires some work. The first time I cycled out of the smooth paved parking lot, the road rumbled and shook so hard I lost my light. Luckily, using a Velcro cable tie completely solves this problem, but it's an extra step for something that had all the bugs ironed out before it hit the market. I'll never know why so many SUVs recommend this light. I think this light could use a little more peripheral visibility and a lot more durability, especially considering the price.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Reliability
