I have owned most versions of the Nintendo DS except for the Nintendo DSi or the original 2DS. Luckily I can say that this laptop definitely adds some improvements over the regular 3DS I had before buying it. that when turned on, the system worked much worse than usual. Also, trading for a larger screen size versus quality was fine with me as the actual drop in image quality is noticeable but certainly not bad. Swapping out the glossy black texture for a matte material was nice too, as the 3DS got dirty and dirty pretty quickly, but that wasn't really a deciding factor for me. Now, the main differences between the 3DS and 2DS XL are the game cartridge and SD card slot, the stylus, the headphone jack location, the speakers, the handheld design (shape), and the power buttons. First, the power button is now below the battery gauge, and it's not very pleasant to press to turn off the system. It doesn't offer an audible click or tactile sensation to let you know it's been pressed, which definitely doesn't contribute to its relatively slow response time. Nothing to complain about, it's just a little strange. Second, and this will cause problems for anyone using the DS case form, the game cartridge slot and SD card slot are located side by side in the lower left corner of the system and have a cover that needs to be opened to insert cards. . This is not possible if you are using a case as you will need to remove the case to change SD cards or games. With or without a case, it's quite difficult to switch games when they're where they are along with the lid. However, I find that the shape of this PDA is much rounder and much less "sharp", making it more comfortable to hold. The loudspeakers are located on the back of the PDA. So if you're not using headphones, you'll feel vibrations in your hands. I use headphones so this isn't an issue for me, but some may need to take note. Also, it supports MICRO SD cards, not regular ones, so keep that in mind. A few things I can say that are inherently bad about PDAs are the stylus and its placement and the headphone jack location. They sit side by side, to the right of the game cartridge slot, and the stylus is no longer a hand-friendly extension. Now it is much shorter and slightly larger in diameter. This isn't good at all as someone with big hands can't hold it comfortably (I can barely hold it, photo attached), and if you're wearing headphones I wouldn't be surprised if the connector is damaged by the placement of the stylus. All in all, the 2DS XL is a welcome upgrade, but the length of the stylus can put people off. They could have made a telescopic version of the pen and that would have been enough for me to upgrade my rating to five stars. The card slot is also a bit annoying. And what I forgot to mention. The C-Stick added to the 3DS XL and 2DS XL is very static, but it works. I haven't had to use it yet, but I'll update the review if I find any issues with it. However, as it stands I think the 2DS XL is a good member of the 3/2DS family.
