UPDATE! I tested the new antenna for reception when we were about 100 miles from the station and everything was fine. A bit static, but not so much that you can't hear the station. Also, I don't notice any wind noise from this antenna. I got it because I hated the standard antenna. Very prompt delivery. Came with detailed instructions and was easy to replace with the original antenna. I like the looks much better and the AM reception is decent. And I live 50 miles from the station I'm listening to. I don't know if it will hold up to a gentle car wash, but it's easy to take off and put back on.
