These are powerful hooks that do a fantastic job holding tight. I use them mostly on the white boards in my classroom, but I have one on a filing cabinet and another on a metal "bin"/office organizer/shelving unit. They are strong enough to hold up the portable speakers that I use for my PPT presentations. I also use them to hold up maps and posters during lessons, to string cords for displays that hold up student work, and to hold my hall pass. I have three in use to hold up a shoe organizer that I use to keep student objects like extra pencils, scissors, erasers and the like. I like them so much and have found them so useful that my first pack of 6 was soon followed by another purchase!In response to an earlier review about them being *too strong*, if you want to release them, take the hook and twist it slightly at an angle to 'pop' the magnetic attraction more easily.Note: if the hook begins to spin, you will need to screw it back into the base. This takes just a second, but I have found that some of the hooks will loosen over time with use. This is not a flaw, just part of the design.
