Review on BookFactory Lab Notebook/Laboratory Notebook - Professional Grade - 96 Pages, 8" X 10" (Ruled Format) Black And Burgundy Imitation Leather Cover, Smyth Sewn Hardbound Student (LRU-096-SRS-A-LKMST1) by Shah Nelson

OK for the price - my new review

The good: The book itself is sturdy, with rugged covers and good quality paper that doesn't bleed or wick ink. The printing is fine, and exactly what you would expect/want in a general lab notebook for documenting research work. The bad: The signatures are of irregular size and don't quite line up neatly. Some quantity of glue has leaked into the gutter, sticking pages in adjacent signatures together near the crease. This, combined with the tight sewing and very stiff binding, means that the book does not lay flat as advertised without judicious application of large, heavy objects. You can also look forward to spending a little time trying to tease apart some of the pages without damaging the printing. It's still usable, and for the price it's fine, but definitely not a top-quality product.Update: I was contacted by the seller who stated that they'd improved their manufacturing process to address the defects I mention above. They provided me with another notebook (at their expense) which was much improved over the first one I bought: it lies flat without assistance, the signatures (while still slightly irregular) line up properly, and there was no glue in the gutter. If the new one that they offered me does in fact reflect the new standard of quality for this item, then I'd probably give it four or five stars instead.
