The thinner side offers a very soft, gentle exfoliation. Large "buttons" are more suitable for massage. Depending on your skin type, you will need to adjust the pressure you use when doing this. It has a sponge inside that you have to dampen and then squeeze some detergent into the bottom hole, but I didn't find this to be a useful way to disperse the detergent. I wet my skin, apply cleanser, and then use a wet octopus. It offers a very thorough and stimulating cleansing. I'm still amazed at the care and care that goes into Korean skincare, even the packaging. This could be a great Christmas stocking for some young girls I know who are practicing Korean skincare.
