I have read reviews on this and many other detectors. If you want a specific and very accurate detector, you have to spend a lot of money to get the right instrument. In fact, the sensitivity and high accuracy of sensors cost money. But if you're looking for a versatile tool, then this might be for you. Understand that this is basically a hydrocarbon gas sensor. This will detect methane, propane, butane and even your dog's gases. If you understand how this tool works, you can use it to check your gas lines, for example. I used it to test 200 feet of gas lines that I replaced in our home. Before you start, you need to make sure the room is well ventilated. Adjust the sensitivity so that there is little buzz in a ventilated room, and then start scanning. It then acts as a differential indicator. If it lights up and makes more noise, then you probably have a leak. I haven't tested it outdoors so I don't know how it works.
