Budget-friendly, travel-friendly painter sketchbooks

These compact books are small enough to easily fit in a tote or backpack and can be taken anywhere you feel inspired to do a rough watercolor, acrylic, pastel, or mixed media sketch. Each page has a smooth side and a slightly textured side, so it can truly accommodate a variety of mediums. I like the elastic band, so that the book stays closed while transporting. I also like the budget-friendly quality, because I won't likely use these books for final artworks (unless I do a collage)--why overspend on expensive cold-pressed paper? It would also be an ideal travel journal for those who use words and images to record their impressions. I'm happy to have these.

Pros
  • The paper's high-quality weight and texture give the impression of more expensive, professional-grade paper
Cons
  • The paper may not be as resistant to tearing as other watercolor paper options
