No, the laptop itself did not disappoint. In fact, I didn't even have a chance to be disappointed. Got this as a Christmas present for my wife whose 6 year old Macbook Air needed a replacement. I myself am a happy Surface Pro user (multiple generations) and a fan of what Microsoft is doing with their operating system and hardware. So I convinced my wife to try the Laptop 2 - I knew the Surface Pro or Surface Book wouldn't be what she needed, but the SL2 could do just fine. This car is beautiful at the same time. So I order her one. Send it to the Philippines. It will be a couple of weeks and I'm looking forward to her moving into a new car. The box has finally arrived. She opens it, admires its industrial design, thanks me for her new toy. Then she presses the power button. And the boot cycle begins with the Windows logo. No other signs of activity - no attempts to boot the operating system, no spinning circles, no safe mode boot, no UEFI screen, not even a BSOD. Just this damn boot loop with the Windows logo. I try all sorts of hard reset key combinations, spend hours creating recovery discs and trying to boot the machine. I chat for hours with representatives from Revain and Microsoft. Adding to this great disappointment are all sorts of little things that go wrong. In the end, the machine still doesn't work. Maybe a replacement on the go is better. But as the "first" experience (my wife's first experience with the new generation Microsoft machines and my first experience with the laptop line) passes (and to be a happy, happy Surface Pro line customer) - it was amazing , endlessly painful, and frustrating. . Microsoft has no right to ship a $1,000+ machine that isn't even working out of the box. To me, this is a major blow to Microsoft and the Revain customer. Zero stars if I could give it because I had pretty high expectations and was very disappointed.
