These are very solid bowls that I use for a variety of things in the kitchen, not just soup/salad plates. The finish is smooth (even on the underside which I appreciate). The matte finish and scalloped edge are very nice - very attractive. The only thing I complain about is the sound the spoon makes as it slides across the matte surface while eating the soup. It's a bit like nails on a board. So maybe just a salad bowl/large cooking bowl. The gray color isn't as nice as I expected and I wish I had gone for black but they are still very good.
