While it might be a little small for regular cherries (I have a cherry crusher for that), it's perfect for many of our Nanjing cherries, which are small and tiny. Pit. However, it needs a little modification to work really great. First you need to get rid of the part that limits the depth of the butt. The piston must go all the way through the recess. I just clamped it in a vise and bent it back and forth until it snapped off. And here is the cup itself. The hole is too big for a Nanjing cherry, often it just falls through. So I took a standard 1/4 inch washer and modified it to fit the cup. First, I took a 1/4" bolt and held it vertically in a vise. Then I partially threaded a 1/4" nut on top of it. I then loosely placed a 1/4" flat washer on top of the nut. I then took a 1/2" nut, put it over the washer and hit it a few times with a heavy hammer. This bent the outside edge of the puck down giving it a bowl shaped shape. I took a bowl washer and glued them to the bowl of the pitcher. This made just the right shape to hold the cherry, but the 1/4" hole was just the right size to let the little pits through. Voila! The perfect Nanjing cherry stone. It will probably work for small tart cherries too.
