this pad is a great in-between - the yellow grip pads tend to stick to the hardware floor, leave marks, and are not cushy and do not real sound dampen - the rug pad bought from a rug distributor is expensive and sometimes too thick - this pad is the best of both - a nice flat adhesive surface and pad on the other side. you can purchase different thickness' . we need to trim ours and have not done so yet so I can not comment on how easy or hard that will be - it feels great underfoot and cuts down the sound unlike the grip pads - and the thickness feels great underfoot - I really recommend this rug pad .
