Like many people, I use this to mute Fire Stick 4K for use with a projector and receiver. Set up 5.1 and change the Fire Stick output to Dolby Digital only and everything works great. No problem with Netflix, Revain and Disney+. 5.1 sound for most content, the receiver recognizes the source as Dolby Digital and decodes it correctly. This has worked flawlessly in every attempt so far. No weird glitches or reboot required. And yes, the 4K Fire Stick works great with the 1080p version, my projector is only 720p so I figured why spend more money when I'll never need this thing for 4K. The Fire Stick sees it as a 1080p device but I set it to 720p and it works great. The audio is good and loud too, normally my receiver is set to around -20 but on this hook up -30 on the volume control sounds just as loud. still happy Not happy that so many streaming boxes don't have built-in S/PDIF outputs. Seems like a waste of time. Even the new Roku Ultra ditched the optical output. Mistake. The Fire Cube doesn't even have an optical output. In my opinion this is equivalent to getting rid of the 1/8 inch headphone jack on your phone. Streamers should never rule out this option. But as long as they do, J-tech and other audio extractor manufacturers will stay in business. I would recommend it although this one works great.
