It is a nice piece, but not the most practical for storage or displaying pictures/keepsakes.The shelves are metal, but the metal rods are not very close together and there is only one rod across the middle for support. They wont hold a lot of things, such as books, pictures, or any item that doesn't have a flat bottom. There are also spaces on each end of the shelves, so only thick cookbooks could go there without falling through. The bottom shelves are narrow and do not go all the way to the back leaving a 2 inch gap at the back.It also arrived with damage to the front corners of the wooden shelf, but we didn't notice this on first inspection. It would be a huge pain to try to send it back.
