Update: 7/2019: very satisfied with this device. We are surrounded by terrible smoke from wildfires that causes headaches, eye, throat and lung irritation. This device is very effective in removing smoke and particulate matter odor from the air in my home. Even though we hate staying at home in the summer, smoking exposure has really made us feel better. Very happy with this cleaner! I live in Alaska between three glaciers that turn rocks into the finest glacial mud. This silt is everywhere, and it is so fine that a light breeze carries it. When the wind is strong, it gets into every crack and crevice and covers the house with this finest dust. You can see it in the air if you look around on a windy day. While I'm not expecting miracles, I feel like it's helping the air in my house and I woke up today with no headaches. That's so pleasant! My sinuses feel better - not perfect, but better. What I really like is that the sensitivity can be adjusted to your liking. I just made mine a bit more sensitive, and when it's set to smart mode, it adjusts the fan to the appropriate level. Neither my cat nor my dog seems to mind. It's noticeably loud at maximum fan speed, but I can't hear it at all in sleep mode and on low settings. I also chose it because it has two large dirty air intakes, one on each side. I have looked at other purifiers that have only one and/or small inlet. It seems to me that they just can't suck in as much impure air, so they're less effective. If he can't get impure air, he can't purify it, right? Replacement filters can be expensive, but all the Advil, cold and cold medicine I take definitely doesn't come cheap. I happily spend those dollars on filters, then suffer and buy medicine. For some reason the larger unit is cheaper than the smaller one so I bought this one. It's a bit big, but I can handle it.
