They can be stacked or used as individual shelves. These are wire shelves, not solid ones. Each end attaches to the shelf with two screws and a hex nut. A hex wrench is included if you don't have a hex screwdriver bit. The kit includes 4 clips for fixing when you want to stack shelves on top of each other. The instructions have a lot of words and pictures, so they are not instructions in the form of pictograms. It took less than 3 minutes to attach the legs to both shelves. strong enough for light objects. I use them to free up space in my hallway closet.
