Screw cracked when tightened

About 4 out of 10 screws stopped turning when tightened. 6 out of 10 reached the required 25 ft-lbs. 1 bolt burst before even reaching 24 ft.lbs. Using an auto-click torque wrench, I cleaned out the old bolt holes with compressed air and Briggs tightened them (to a third or less of a torque cycle). (although it would be nice if the product had such procedures). I will probably reuse the original screws and replace the 4 bad ones. Though pulling out a broken bolt might be beyond my strength. For an alternative Briggs Pad purchase item, the cost would have been higher and the reviews less favorable than this item. The Briggs product had complaints of snap bolts and missing gasket holes. I have not noticed such negative reviews for this product - until now. I think I won the lottery. Update: I managed to extract the broken bolt! I had to take half the crankcase off again, but luckily the bolt broke off above the thread line. I was able to grab the broken screw with a pair of pliers and then unscrew it. A few words about quality. The new screws look worse than my originals. They were shiny, light, like zinc/aluminum. The original bolts were clearly hardened. The originals were heavier, yellowish in color, and even had about six "bars" on the head, suggesting these original bolts were hardened. The new screws did not have these properties. I reused all the original screws for assembly. I cleaned the old bolts with a wire brush to remove the old thread sealant (was pretty strong in it). I installed with my own liquid blue thread sealant. I believe the spec was up to 25 ft-lbs of torque. I was cautious and opted for 22 foot pounds. This proved to be more than adequate for a bolt of this size in an aluminum crankcase. The engine's initial run was short and there were no leaks. The time will show.
