Comes with everything to replace gasket, screws and all A+! In service

These Briggs engines have a service bulletin that changes the torque requirements for the lower crankcase bolts. However, I found that this was not the problem. Poor workmanship at the factory was the main cause of my engine gasket failure. This kit fixed it right away, no A++ leaks! Half the cost of the factory kit. Made in China

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • No insurance

Bolts out of spec

Gasket seems fine I will know when I put oil in it and it works but bolts should not be used. I started installing the bolts into the crankcase and tightening them in the sequence specified by B&S. Then I started tightening the bolts according to the B&S instructions, the very first bolt broke off in the crankcase which took a lot of effort to get it out. I threw the rest away. I went back to the original screws and everything was fine.

Pros
  • Excellent overall
Cons
  • is embarrassing

Screw cracked when tightened

About 4 out of 10 screws stopped turning when tightened. 6 out of 10 reached the required 25 ft-lbs. 1 bolt burst before even reaching 24 ft.lbs. Using an auto-click torque wrench, I cleaned out the old bolt holes with compressed air and Briggs tightened them (to a third or less of a torque cycle). (although it would be nice if the product had such procedures). I will probably reuse the original screws and replace the 4 bad ones. Though pulling out a broken bolt might be beyond my strength.
