Review on πŸ“± Google Pixel 4 Unlocked Smartphone - Clearly White - 64GB storage by Julian Banks

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Top price without top performance/features

This review is for the white 64GB Pixel 4 (not XL) that I received from Revain on 10/21/19. I've used it for exactly 48 hours and here are my first impressions - The good is 1. The build quality is impressive. The matte back is fingerprint resistant and the phone is beautiful!2. Dual (stereo) speakers are loud and have good clarity.3. A quick charger is included with the phone. Bad things - unfortunately that's a long list. 1. The battery life is abysmal. The phone has a 2800mAh battery that lasted 18 hours <30 minutes with the screen on. Those 18 hours also included 8 hours of sleep at night, so even with minimal usage, users will need to charge it at least twice a day.2. A 90Hz screen is basically limited to 60Hz. You must enable the "Force 90Hz" option in the "Developer Options" if you want to use its full potential.3. Face unlock fights in the dark. It also sometimes doesn't work until you press the power button to wake up the phone (I have Radar on so the phone detects my presence). In the absence of other biometric options, the lousy facial recognition isn't perfect. One of the 3 times I had to enter my PIN as the face unlock wasn't working. Best of all, it even works with your eyes closed, meaning someone can unlock your phone while you're sleeping by simply pointing it at your face.4. The phone does not come with USB-C.5 headphones. The phone does not have a USB-C to 3.5mm adapter for use with headphones.6. Free unlimited storage on Google Photos ends with the Pixel 4 and Google wants you to pay for cloud storage. The base model only has 64GB, which is small for a 2019 phone. 128 GB should be the base model, or at least have a memory card slot. There's no dual front camera like the Pixel 3.9. The lack of a wide-angle rear camera is a big problem for a 2019 flagship phone. Those who saw the Pixel 4 launch keynote know how silly they sounded trying to justify including a wide-angle telephoto lens. No video recording at 60 fps or higher in 4K. Google has cited limited internal storage as the reason they haven't enabled higher frame rates in 4K, despite the hardware being capable of it. I'm speechless...can't they just give users the choice? 11. At $799, too expensive for a 2019 flagship phone with the above cons. Going back to my OnePlus phone, it's by no means flawless, but it's a very good phone for what it offers and for the price. I can't recommend the Pixel 4 to anyone, and I don't know if the target audience Google wants to sell it to actually exists. If you really need a Pixel, get the 3a. This is a great phone at a very good price!
