I've had the same worn wooden spice rack (with some pretty worn spices) for the last few decades and have searched the internet for other solutions to eventually free up space on my kitchen counter as well as improve the Aesthetics. I saw and ordered a set of 24 small jars with magnetic lids. I've seen other magnetic seasoning solutions, but the hexagonal jars were more visually interesting. The set arrived a few days ago and now I have glasses in the fridge which leaves me with a cleaner desk. At 24, the set includes most of the spices I typically use, plus a few more to experiment with. The magnets in the lids of the jars are very strong and hold securely when the fridge door swings. In addition, attractive geometric shapes can be playfully arranged in a variety of ways. Just yesterday I had a favorite white chili recipe in the slow cooker and I realized the new spice kit didn't have cilantro in it. I'm the kind of person whose taste buds don't like cilantro, especially in salsa, but without cilantro mixed with other spices, chili would taste very different. I decided to check out the Gneiss Spice website as you can choose the right spice for each jar purchased (as a set or individually). You can also buy spares that come in pouches so you don't have to throw out yet another empty spice jar. To be honest, the reaction from friends is usually related to how expensive the sets seem. But when you look at the prices of spices these days, it doesn't take long to realize that you're buying organic herbs and spices, plus the refillable jar with a magnetic lid imprinted with the spice's name has one practical bowl. Labels and stickers for identifying condiments on the bottom of the jar are visually appealing, all for less than $5.50 each (for a small jar). Spare parts are even cheaper. I feel like I've invested in a beautifully executed concept that adds interest to my kitchen, is amazingly functional, and offers quality condiments at a reasonable price. I also support small businesses here in the US. It's a win-win situation!
