After reading reviews about it I was skeptical to say the least. When the package arrived and I saw the size of the lights, I was very surprised at how small they are. These lanterns barely cover the plug of the socket they are plugged into! As you can imagine, I wasn't expecting any light output (especially after turning it on during the day!). I decided to give it a try anyway and plug a few into outlets around the house for nighttime use. Here's the shocker. As useless as they look and as non-existent as the light output may seem, when your eyes are wide and ready to take in the limited light of the night, they are simply AMAZING. They add a nice soft glow to the room, just enough for you to see to go while maintaining night vision for darker areas. If you prefer a well-lit room or bright plane at night to soft ambient light, avoid all of that. If you just need soft light so you can't bang your foot on the couch in the middle of the night and see when your dog suddenly decides he MUST get out at 3am, this is your ticket. I wanted to add that I just KNEW that once plugged in they would be useless, even in a dark room during the day. You are USELESS until your eyes widen and accept low light. (Imagine going outside at half moon, you can't see anything at first, but as your eyes widen when you're outside you start to see better). A very pleasant surprise! However, keep this in mind when pairing with brighter "standard" night lights as they make it difficult to see.
