Review on πŸ“Ά Obihai OBiWiFi5G 802.11AC Adapter: Enhance Wireless Connectivity for OBi VoIP Phones and Devices by Antonio Parson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Efficient, cheap and reliable

With this dongle I get about 33% of the signal in the far corner of my house, which is enough for calls with the same clarity as a call from a landline. My router is Asus RT-AC68U with Tomato firmware. My guess is that people complaining about poor link quality or poor connectivity either have a junk router or an expensive router with junk, buggy OEM firmware. Here's a litmus test: If you have to reboot your router once a week, then VoIP over Wi-Fi isn't for you. I'm just glad the proprietary Wi-Fi dongle isn't worth the premium. $25 with Prime shipping is quite reasonable for a compact 802.11ac adapter. With this dongle I was able to connect my OBi200 to my WLAN without connecting the OBi200 via Ethernet. After connecting the adapter to my wireless network according to Obihai's documentation, I logged into my router, set up DHCP reservations, and then forwarded UDP port 10000 to the reserved IP address. After that, my OBi200 was able to log into Obihai, log into Google Voice, update the firmware and make calls without errors.

Pros
  • Office electronics
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
