Review on HP 2011X 20 Inch LED Monitor πŸ–₯️ with Tilt & Height Adjustment, 1600X900 Resolution, 3D-Compatible by Scott Miles

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great monitor but had to drill holes for mounting.

I bought this monitor as a second screen alongside my old HP 2009m and was very excited when it arrived. The monitor was very light and thin, but I was very disappointed to find that it had no mounting holes at all. No wonder then that my almost 4 year old 2009m with VESA mounts and internal speakers still costs almost as much as a 2011x that doesn't have either. A customer photo uploaded by LT "Sandman" was quite misleading as it led me to believe there were mounting holes. As it turns out, he drilled the holes himself, but thankfully detailed how he did it in a customer review. For those planning to do so, HP provides a disassembly guide for this monitor, just search for it. For the screws, I used an 8-32 x 1/2" anchor head with matching nuts and washers. 1/2" was enough for me, but you may need longer screws. I had to improvise to line up the holes to be drilled, since I didn't have the right tools, I mounted the monitor on a table surface that I knew was level and with the monitor standing upright on a horizontal plane (you may need an assistant to hold it), used I used a bubble level to draw a line parallel to the table where I wanted to the top of the two VESA holes. Then I found the vertical center on the circular HP logo on the back.I then removed the mount from the bracket, to use as a template for positioning the holes. To help with alignment I drilled a hole and put in a temporary screw that held the bracket in place holds, and then drilled the next hole through the bracket. Repeat for the last two holes. Shims on either side of the holes help distribute the pressure. The monitor is held in place with screws through the plastic, but since the monitor is very light, support isn't an issue. The color and contrast of this monitor are simply amazing. I noticed an instant difference next to my 2009m which I had to color calibrate to match this monitor. Aside from the rather annoying problem of drilling your own mounting holes, I give it 4 stars.
