Review on 🔢 Wixey WR550 Remote Planer Digital Readout by Nathan Vaughn

Great improvement over planer scale. I was confused and had trouble understanding the installation instructions for the device. Nobody has posted a full size planer installation video on youtube. Somehow I found a suggestion to go to Wixey.com and look at the photos. They have 12 photos of the unit mounted on a Powermatic 15HH (my planer). Then it became clear and I used rare earth magnets to position the magnet holder and scale. Then once it was in place I used a center punch to make an indentation to start the bit provided. The instructions say to put a drop of oil on the screws, but I oiled the drill (the table and cabinet are pretty tough things). I used some wax to lubricate the mounting screws and they fit perfectly. According to the instructions, the spring should be removed. I couldn't figure out why until I stretched it. So be sure to remove the spring until you are ready to calibrate. I emailed Wixey.con and received an immediate response. Mr Wicksey was kind enough to say he would send me a new nib free of charge. I offered to pay for a new one. My first calibration was 0.04 via digital calipers. Mr. Vixie should improve to 0.002 with the new nib. With so much precision, I don't care, after all it's wood and after adjustment it always has to be sanded. I would buy again, I use calipers to determine the thickness of the board and then adjust the planer to remove about 1/16th. Updated 1/1/2019, I've been using Wixey for over a year and a half. Never had any accuracy, calibration or vibration issues. I can't imagine it being any better and I never want to use my planer without it again.
