The water in our area comes from wells and has an average hardness of 23 grains, so I've had a water softener since we built our house in '91. This water softener was leaking so on Saturday I took it off and started shopping for a replacement. My family immediately noticed that the taste of our water improved without a water softener, so I switched my search to salt-free alternatives and found electronic descaling products to be attractive in terms of both initial and maintenance costs. 23 grains of hardness for electronic descaling products is too much, but this device advertises with 25, so I thought it was worth it and ordered it on Sunday. On Tuesday morning we noticed that the shampoo in particular was not lathering, so we saw the effect of removing the old water softener. The new unit arrived Tuesday afternoon and was easy to install (although the installation does not require the antennas to be folded in any particular direction, I chose to mount them exactly as shown in the picture, effectively folded in opposite directions ). The instructions were clear and informative and indicated that it would be around 3 days before we realized the soap would start to foam. In our case this happened almost instantly, on Wednesday morning (12pm) the shampoo started foaming again! No, our water tastes better, soap foams again. Changes in lime and stains can still be seen; Our old water softener was never perfect at descaling and stains on our glasses were common. So if this device performs as advertised, we might see an improvement in that area as well. But we already have our money's worth.
