Norton Puck: Whetstones

I ordered this stone because I carry a light hatchet in my backpack. If you plan on using it on regular axes and sledgehammers I wouldn't recommend this stone as it's not as aggressive to sharpen, even on the rough side. Well that's off the track, if you're looking for the ONE stone that will take care of your axe, machete and even thin knives, this is a GREAT stone. I have been sharpening razors for over 45 years including many years. So it's no joke when I'm impressed by a stone. The rough side is aggressive enough to remove small dents and burrs from hatchets, while the fine side is surprisingly thin, capable of almost polishing the edge of hunting and sirloin blades. Using this stone under cold water will not clog the stone with steel particles and give a very sharp edge. Some people get nervous using a hand-held washstone, and if you're nervous, simply wet the stone and place it on a folded piece of newspaper, holding the stone in place so you can protect your hand. Once you learn how to use a puck, you'll never cut yourself or carry a bunch of sharpeners in your backpack. This kid will do anything for hatchets and knives. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, FIVE STARS.
