If you fill it up to the top, the mold will stay in it for about a day. I did not try using it in the refrigerator. I went on a tour that started at seven in the morning and was filled with boiling water. At seventeen thirty-five in the afternoon, I made the decision to drink tea, and it burned my lips. I wasn't prepared for the tea to be quite as hot as it was, and I believe the temperature may be even higher than 85 degrees, but let me remind you that the thermos was kept in warmer temperatures for the entire trip.
