Review on Steelman Wireless ChassisEAR Auto Diagnostic Tool Kit: πŸ”§ Identify Troubling Vehicle Noises with 4 Transmitters & 50-Foot Range by Richard Bowens

A godsend for detecting annoying ringing noises.

Let me find the intermittent low pitched ringing that I have missed despite 6 weeks of searching for the source of the noise. The sound was like a hose gently hitting metal. Several episodes where the car was jacked up and bolts, bushings, stabilizer bars, fuel tank straps, fenders, bumper clamps, trunk fenders, exhaust tips, brake hoses, etc. were checked/tightened. I could never find the source of the ringing, which only happened at < 15 mph and only over small bumps in the road. In the end, I was disappointed enough to consider the cost of the chassis ear. On an instrumental test drive, one of the microphones I attached to the stabilizer picked up the noise source. It was the connection between the stabilizer bar and the bolt. This connection was tight enough that pushing and pulling the ends of the stabilizer bar by hand made no noise or obvious movement. Steelman Chassis Ear caught it willingly. Only AFTER removing the stabilizer mount which made an audible click when manually moving the bar end. Tighten the stabilizer link to the bar and no more rattling! I used to rule out the stabilizer bar because a manual test using hand force on the ends of the bar returned zero results. an audible noise and it felt solid. The chassis ear has found a hidden culprit. It was worth getting rid of the annoying ringing. The included Velcro straps were a must for attaching the transmitters. I'm glad I have the wireless version. Running multiple wires would be PITA. The transmitter on/off slide switches are very difficult to slide. The rest of the system was reasonably built.
