The Key is These Endless (hookless) Ratchet Straps! They Rock!They are perfect for a Sport or Sport Tour Motorcycle Trailer Tie Down like my Yamaha FJR 1300.I purchased a set of these Heavy Duty Endless Ratchet Straps (without Hooks) for $29.95 from amazon and I rented a Uhaul trailer for $14.95 for the day.• The straps thread nicely around the lower shock. (one on each side)• They will not rub or even touch any paint.• Straps with hooks or even soft strap extensions won't fit through the space I used with these.• You can ratchet them down nice-n-tight without any unwanted suspension compression.• Just those two straps are enough to hold the bike for short trips. Really!For longer trips (I towed mine over 350 miles)• I add a lighter weight strap around the wheel to pull it into the chock (or against the front trailer cage if your trailer does not have a chock).• I also remove the panniers and run a strap through each pannier mount to add sideways support. (I do not ratchet these very tight - these mounts are not as strong as the front fork)• You can alternatively add a strap around the rear wheel (similar to how I did the front wheel) pulling the rear wheel back and to the sides.IMPORTANTBefore going too far (after 2 to 5 miles) STOP AND CHECK YOUR STAPS. They can stretch if they are new or if they have not been used in a while and they can need a little re-tightening. After that is done once, they tend to remain tight but check them at least every time you stop for gas.NOTEI only took a picture of my front tie-down as that is the most common concern. Again the rear straps are not intended to be the primary method for holding the bike down. They are more for preventing tipping. So, they don't need to be as heavy-duty or tightly-ratched. Again, you should avoid compressing the suspension. The lighter 1 inch straps from the same company can be used for the secondary tie-downs.Summary: Buy these with confidence. They are strong and work great!
