I'm afraid I'll have to reluctantly go with the naysayers on this. Replaced the cartridge which is almost 2 years old. I expected the sodium granules to run out, but when dry they were almost the same weight as a new block, with almost the same maraca sound. I'm not sure if only part of the water flow should be cleared or the entire flow. If that's all I just can't understand how I can get so much flow out of such small holes. I just can't get that much volume out of those tiny holes. I'll still run this new cartridge for 6-12 months and then replace it with the second new one I bought, but I'll end up removing the machine from my setup and just keep flushing the tankless water heater annually.
