Incredible number of functions with a fairly simple setup. Here's what I use it for:
- storage of documents, home photos, videos, etc.
- file sharing synchronization point in the house for many devices, phones, tablet, home PC, two laptops, and of course everything works on all common operating systems (Win, Mac, Linux).
- of course, a backup, can sync with a Google disk, with a disk (bad, but this is due to restrictions on the side, the device has nothing to do with it)
- of course, there is the ability to backup from the NAS itself to S3-compatible storage, incrementally, with a convenient search and display on the date you need to restore. If desired, the S3 directory can be mounted locally on the PC and pull out the data, even if the NAS dies
- you can just backup to HDD connected via usb
- to the directory backup mode on the PC there is a directory synchronization mode, a la dropbox, you just need to install the utility
- print server (no need to connect an old laser printer to the laptop anymore, just print over the network), no more need to keep the desktop turned on to print over the network, no need to turn on the computer anymore to print something, because you can print from your phone (wife delighted)
- torrento rocking chair
- video watcher - they started watching movies on TV from it, but everyone decided that it was time to sleep, you open the same movie on the tablet and watch further without disturbing anyone
- if there is an archive of your favorite music, you can listen to it through the DS Audio application on your phone, but if it clings to the phone with a car via bluetooth, then you can listen to music on a trip to work from the same storage, now you won’t surprise anyone, but it’s mega convenient
- If you add memory up to 6Gb, you can run virtual machines for experiments.
- And you can raise software in docker containers, for example, I use drawio to run on the internal network.
- You can fumble files outside
- Synology Notes is quite suitable for replacing Evernote, there is a version for PC and phone
- and a whole lot more.
