Great tool to start burning wood

I was recently introduced to the concept of pyrography and wanted to try it. Found this set and so far have enjoyed learning about the instrument. I've had the tool for about two days now and I'm already enjoying this new hobby. Here are some of my examples/practical work. It takes a little getting used to holding the grip that far and I quickly understood why many people recommend using gloves. the heat emanating from the metal can be very intense. Pros: Inexpensive entry-level tool; I can get good results and I see that I can get acceptable results with this model; Cons: The grip point makes detail lines a little tricky (compared to the grip point closer to the tip found on pricier models), but I'm sure this can be overcome with practice; I've found that the tips come off quite often; Warm up time isn't really bad, cool down time (so you can switch tips) is a bit long but with planning (or figuring out how to do it with just one tip?) it's not too bad also a big minus. You just have to get rid of the "I have to do it now" thought. Overall I am very happy with the results after 3-4 sessions behind me. somewhat worried that this model could be a transitional product to more expensive models. I can easily see myself updating in the near future; then my daughters will be able to enjoy the advantages of this model. Until then, I look forward to honing my shading skills!

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
