I must have been too dazzled by the carving tools in this set to realize it doesn't include a flimsy carving knife! There's a chunky straight knife that's good for large cuts and a handy curved knife (maybe the best tool in the kit), but nothing for small cuts. So if you buy this set, maybe combine it with a cheap set of thinner, smaller knives. I ended up using an Xacto blade for detail. The plastic handles on the knives are great and the serrated shovel is excellent. Scraping tools are available. something cheap and superfluous. I used a slightly triangular one to erase the owl in the image; others appear too round to be scratched. (And the wire part of the tool slipped out of the tip a few times; they're pretty cheap.) If you want to sculpt a pumpkin, you might be better off looking for actual clay tools!
