This was my first time doing anything like sharpening pruning tools. I used to just go ahead and buy another instrument. Well I have a whole collection of old and boring tools. I'm so stupid. Ignorance is not happiness. Is it expensive. In any case, this whetstone turned out to be the perfect size for me. It stayed wet for a reasonable time during the grinding process. Since there was no stop in the kit to keep it from slipping, I used a very coarse washcloth. For curved blades, I picked and maneuvered with a rock instead of blades. The small size makes it easy to do. This may be cheating, but I didn't want to disassemble the tools as I'm not sure I can put them back together correctly. Serious. I had so much fun sharpening that I moved on to three household shears after I was done with all my garden shears. A really good buy for my first journey to responsible instrument ownership.
