Yes, the handle is metal, but it's too flimsy and the four parts are connected by plastic hinges. That's fine until you start sweeping with some pressure, and then you'll feel the flex. If your sweeping duties are mostly light duty, this might not be a problem. Thankfully, the handle appears to be fairly standard, so it can be replaced with something more permanent. And I was very happy with the performance of the broom head. I used it to clean a concrete floor that was covered in dirt and dust, rodent droppings, leaves, bits of plaster and other debris. Dense bristles of medium hardness coped perfectly with their task. Despite the handle I still give this brush 4 stars as the brush head worked very well and the price is good at only $23 although the handle will need cleaning at some point. eventually be replaced.
