We had a lot of VHS, family videos that we did in the 80's and 90's. We retired and became a little house, and we needed to digitize those priceless memories. We used the VHS to DVD converter for several tapes back in 2010 and sent copies of those DVDs to our kids when the conversion was complete. I've spent some time over the last two weeks comparing competing home video devices to digital conversion products. Format on my Windows 7 PC and Mac for long term archiving and so I can edit videos on my PC. Video Resolution: Analog videotape formats (VHS, Video8, and regular Hi8) have a native video resolution of less than 640x480. All video transmission products on the market record video in these formats at 640x480 or 720x480 resolution. It does not matter in which of these two resolutions the product records. The point is that all video broadcast products are recorded at a higher resolution than the original video. So when you're broadcasting a video, you're capturing the full resolution of the original video, which is good. But when I use it on my Mac, I find the video grabber "Video Capture by thedigitnow" is much higher quality than other similar products, even the same as Hauppauge and Elgato, but I only buy it after I have 1/3 of the Elgato money spent. In short, I am very satisfied with the product and can only recommend it. Of course, your experience may vary depending on the hardware.
