Review on HAUTMEC Sealant Plumbers Plumbing HT0123 ST by Neil Biondo

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Why you don't want to save money on Teflon Tape

Update (11/3/20): Summary: There are things in life you don't want to buy cheap and Teflon tape is a prime example. I've completed 6 major plumbing jobs in 3 months (5 faucets/drains, 1 water filter) so I understand what needs to be done to get a good seal. Working with the water filter (below) was the only problem; The point is, if you can keep the number of variables to a minimum, you increase your chances of success. Discussion: I installed a water filter under the sink and used 3/4 inch Dixon Teflon tape. problematic, it was a 1" NPT nipple screwed into an ABS filter housing. I couldn't get it to seal because I was using a closed nipple and just couldn't get it to seal. After I reworked the connection , I twice removed the closed nipple and replaced it with a slightly longer one with turnkey flats.I had to repeat this twice more until I could finally get an airtight seal. Each time I had to shut off the source of the faucet, then depressurize the system and then vent the water. And do it with a good Dixon tape. I install large bulkhead connectors, some up to 2" and the 3/4 tape lasts a lot longer, especially on large threads. In most cases I can use 3- 4 turns disassemble and reassemble the joint without removing the old tape (sometimes I had a turn or two left when it was flimsy). see). If you don't have enough tape when making PVC/ABS connections, the plastic will mesh on the other side and instead of gently turning the fittings, it squeaks and twitches, which also means incomplete thread engagement, which means LEAKING! Update (10/16/20): Now that I've used this on a few jobs, this tape is THINNER than most, so you end up having to do more wraps around the pipe. Downgraded my rating from 5 to 2 stars. I'll go back to the thicker standard Teflon tape. Update (9/27/20): Used to install seven (7) 1/2 NPT garden faucets; worked fine. Advantages: 10 packs for the price of a couple of rolls on the spot. Cons: too thin, requires a lot more wraps. Bottom line: I can never say you don't have Teflon tape handy.
