The good, the bad and the ugly stainless steel automatic sprinkler. I know, I know - using an old cowboy movie reference is a bit hackneyed, but it really is the best way to describe this product (and my experience with it). So let's start with the good: 1) As most reviewers have noted, this product is REALLY very high quality and durable. higher grade steel 304). Note: I learned (FULLY) that stainless steel will rust IF you use chlorine [or bleach] in the water as it is ACID (which destroys the rust preventative). I tried a few drops of chlorine to kill the [green] algae in the water (and saw rust forming soon after). stainless steel]). Then I ordered the epoxy coated version and it worked GREAT (no rust), that is, until my shepherds literally chewed on some of the coating --- And eventually, as soon as the galvanized steel showed, it started to rust. Even the other [galvanized] [see here - Miller Mfg. 88SW Automatic Stock Waterer], I eventually started rusting too. to refill (or refill) this thing since it has an 'auto' refill function (although if you have a dog, you'll clean it every now and then for all the dirt, leaves and 'drool' have to settle in the bowl bottle over time (this mostly happens when twisting off and squirting out of the hose) Also, there were a few NOT SO GOOD [bad] things you (the buyer) should be aware of -1) The size is a bit smaller than you might think from the picture. Only about 9 inches or so wide. This is normal for dogs (or other small animals) but not for horses, cows, etc. 2) The hose connector WILL leak unless you use standard plumber's teflon tape [on the steps, BOTH sides of the adapter] and rubber. Wash down the garden hose [both ends and sides] and TIGHTEN REALLY WELL (using pliers, not just "hand"). 3) There was no "assembly" equipment to speak of. There was a small steel bar with two holes included but NO nuts or bolts! - I had to "drill" two holes in the top so I could use some strong zip ties to attach it to my kennel's wire mesh. I think I could have bought special bolts, nuts and "hooks" to do the same thing (tougher attachment), but tie-wraps did the same job (and cheaper). Ugliness: I saved the WORST for last! Not only did they [manufacturers] not provide a suitable bracket and/or garden hose attachments! Try to find a suitable adapter! -- Despite this extra effort, I couldn't even find this particular adapter at Lowes or Home Depot. We're talking about this adapter (Gilmour 1/2-Inch Brass Double Female Swivel Connector 5FPS7FH) that you can only find in a hardware store or here at Revain (and of course you have to pay 5-10 EXTRA money for it!) Finally and in general i am satisfied with the quality of this product (notwithstanding my limited dissatisfaction) BUT. I find and find it "AMAZING” not yet providing good mounting hardware and the most common hose adapter! So if you REALLY need it, buy it - but KNOW what you're looking for and be prepared to buy/make some extra to use this product (my 2 cents :-)
